REF2021: The Future of Research at UofG

The University of Glasgow has been recognised for its world-leading research and the positive impact it has on society, by the Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF2021). Our research strives to find solutions to real-world challenges.

Complex societal challenges require an inter-disciplinary approach to truly make a difference. Law has an important role to play and we are continuing to work with other disciplines to address some of the most pressing environmental issues. Two recent examples are:

Gigi Jokubauskaite is a co-investigator on the GALLANT project (Glasgow as a Living Lab Accelerating Novel Transformation). GALLANT is a £10.2 million research programme funded by UKRI NERC as part of their Changing the Environment investment. University researchers, in partnership with Glasgow City Council, are helping the city move towards climate resilience whilst tackling health, social and economic inequalities. The project brings together researchers in engineering, environmental science, public health, international law, and business and management, among others.

Jill Robbie is a co-investigator on the £5.9m EPSRC funded Decentralised Water Technologies project, which runs from 2021-2026. This project is led by Prof William Sloan, Professor of Environmental Engineering at the University of Glasgow, and aims to accelerate the delivery of decentralised water technologies for both water and wastewater services for sustainable rural communities. The project brings together researchers in engineering, law, politics, chemistry and biology.
